Episode 102 Transcript

Heather (00:05.8)

Welcome you guys, we're in episode 102. So I was in the Philippines last week for a whole week and there's a conference there called Business Blueprint. Now over the years, I have been a mentor for the Business Blueprint members, which are business owners that are actively growing and scaling their businesses. And what that means is essentially they have different conferences and I show up at those conferences in the form of round tables.

So certain level of their membership gets access to these round tables where I sit down and I basically just answer all questions, digital marketing to their members. So the founder of the company, Dale Beaumont, he extended, um, amazingly. So an invitation for the mentors to join the business blueprint conference. And I'm like, yeah, sure. Why not? And so part of that, then they, once I booked, he reached out to me and said, do you also want to speak? And I'm like, yeah, that'd be amazing.

Speaking is great, you guys, like I urge you to definitely speak if you've never tried it or if it's not horrifying and lets you break out in night sweats. But look, it's amazing because then you position yourself as an expert and then people get to know you in that way and you can oftentimes get business from it, right? So when I was there, I wrote down notes from all the other speakers and just in general, and I've...

have some lessons or things that I want to share with you guys. So there are three distinct little, I guess, topics that I'm going to take you through of the things that I learned at Business Blueprint Philippines. Three sections. First section is Mindset, section, section, second section, if I can talk, is Business, third is Team. And I'm going to give you three or tips in each of those three sections. Okay. So these tips not only come from

conversations that I had with the other business owners, which by the way, there were a lot of people there. I don't even know, like up to 200. It was huge. And so conversations with other business owners, listening to the other speakers as well. This is sort of where I pulled this information in from and just stuff that I noticed as well. So, um, first one mindset, get out of your comfort zone.

Heather (02:30.984)

is a big one. And I went to this conference all by myself. Not that that scares me much these days, but I like to, you know, kind of stay on top of my comfort zone and do whatever I can to mix that up. So I went all by myself, flew out to the Philippines by myself, stayed in a hotel room by myself. And you learn a lot about yourself when you travel alone, which is, I think, amazing as well. So that's one. Get out of your comfort zone.

I've talked about that a lot in this podcast before too. Number two, do what makes you happy. Remember to do what makes you happy. So the first night I was there, I just explored the resort by myself. So we stayed in the Shangri -La Hotel in Cebu in the Philippines and it was beautiful grounds, right? So I went out and I explored the gardens and I...

like did sort of a full tour of the grounds from the beach, the gardens, to the spa, everything. I walked around and I did a night swim as well. So the pool closed at 9 p .m. It was incredibly hot and humid there. And so I'm like, I'm just going in for a night swim. And I really listened to myself while I was there. You know what? What can I do to really up my happiness? And that was a big.

Big theme, by the way, with all the speakers as well is bringing more fun and happiness into your life. The next tip was to be more thoughtful. One of the speakers specifically actually spoke about this point quite a bit. Ultimately just knowing that sometimes the people that you're dealing with are doing the best they can with what they have in that moment. There's so many stories, situations, issues,

celebrations, things that we are going through at any given moment as a human being and just recognizing that with your team and clients and people in general just to be more thoughtful and caring about them. The next mindset idea that I came across was defining your own version of success. So yes, we've spoken a lot about this as well and all the people that I've interviewed on this podcast are giving their versions of success to you guys.

Heather (04:53.8)

That was a huge theme, yet again, so many speakers talking about success. What does it mean to you? And then the conversations I had with the business owners there as well. So your level of success is just ultimately a lot of people were saying, you know, am I free to do what I want? Am I happy? Am I healthy? And it didn't really come down to money and belongings. So interesting. And then the last one was practice daily gratitude.

So there's a whole speaker talking around every day, have a moment in the morning where you practice gratitude and think about what you're grateful for. And that is just something that I've always lived by as well, is just focusing on, on being grateful. One of my mentors in the past, his name was Keith Cunningham. He said that when you are grateful, that's all you can focus on is to be grateful. You can't focus on any other emotions. And he said, and if you.

are not feeling grateful, just look at your fingers. Do you have 10 of them? Be grateful for that. But literally being grateful for what you have. So that's mindset. So we have get out of your comfort zone, do what makes you happy, be more thoughtful, define your own version of success and practice daily gratitude. Now let's change gears you guys into business tips and ideas. So the first business tip.

I really liked this one. This came from another speaker. By the way, I'm going to bring a lot of these speakers all if I can onto this podcast. So stay tuned. We have some really amazing, we have such a great lineup coming up of incredible people. So let me go back. So business grow revenue while decreasing the time earning it. I had never heard it been put like that before.

How do you focus on growing your revenue while also simultaneously focus on decreasing the time it takes for you and your team to earn it? Hmm, very good. Thought provoking, isn't it? Next is focus on 1 % improvement at a time in your business. This is also could be in your life. Oftentimes we set these big lofty goals, right? And then we get caught up in that and then we can beat ourselves up if we don't achieve those things. But if you just scale back,

Heather (07:15.592)

and think about focusing 1 % improvement at a time over time, that's kind of an easier thing to grasp onto. Next is be in the business of experiences. Again, another theme, a lot of these themes are coming up all the time from not only Dale when he was speaking, the founder of Business Blueprint, but also the speakers and just talking to the business owners. Be in the business of experiences. How are you?

providing an incredible experience to your own customers. Next, AI. There's lots of talk on AI and AI tools. And one of them was around AI agents and how they're just going to revolutionize how we do business. And in a nutshell, as for what I understand an agent to be, is essentially you train AI to...

talk like your business and know what your business does by uploading documents and systems and procedures. And then you use these agents to hook into different software solutions. So they essentially go out and work by automating things for you. Obviously this is not an AI episode. I'm not an AI expert, but it's essentially an AI tool.

that is trained in how your business operates and then it can do automations and all sorts of different things for you using tools that you link into it. So that is something else, AI of course. Next and last is systematize everything that you do. And a good outcome of that is to every month hand over a task that you don't wanna do to a current team member or hire somebody to do it every single month.

think about something in your business, at least one thing that you can give to another team member or hire somebody to do it. And that's why you systematize everything, because you're preparing for that growth. So to recap on business, grow revenue while decreasing the time earning it, focus on 1 % improvement at a time, be in the business of experiences. AI agents are going to be an incredible tool to really streamline and save time for our businesses.

Heather (09:32.424)

and systematize everything so you're able to hand off one task every single month. And last, I want to finish with TEAM. A lot of the business owners there had their sort of outsourced, offshored Filipino teams that joined for the conference. So TEAM was a big part of this. Number one is to create a BHAG or Big Hairy, what's it? Big Hairy Goal. So I never actually remember what it stands for.

Create an amazing goal and share it with your team. I actually need to work on this more with my team. Like I do calls with them and check in with them, but I'm not actually sharing like a huge, hairy goals, audacious, hairy, audacious goal. That's what it is with my team. So that's the thing I wanted to focus on, because if you're sharing these really amazing goals, it's almost like sharing the vision, right? But they're more specific. Next, keep your team informed. Where are you headed in the business and why?

You want them to support you and back you and they'll come up with their own ideas when they know the direction of where you're headed. And the last one is set clear expectations with your team from the time they start throughout the time they're with you. How do you work? How can they get help? And why what you do is very, very special and what can they expect working with you? So how so in other words,

How do we work? How can you get help? Why what we do is special and what can they expect being with you in the company? So to recap on that, create a big hairy audacious goal or goals and share it with your team. On the flip side of that, keep your team informed where you headed in the business and why and set clear expectations with your team as well. Some could argue you could do that with your clients too, right?

So there you go. Those are my topics on mindset, business and team, the common threads or themes that I picked out throughout my week in the Phil Blueprint Conference. And if you're listening and you were at that conference, thank you for being there and giving all the best that you could and for attending my talk as well. I know I picked up a few new subscribers from that conference cause I did talk a little bit about this podcast. All right, you guys.

Heather (11:55.784)

That is it from me. Thank you so much. I am headed off to the Gold Coast here in Australia to do a training at the end of this week for a travel trends summit and conference. And I'm going to do similar sort of thing there. Very niche, very specific to travel, but there might be some cool travel trends I can share with you guys. So I'll do like a little, Hey, this is what I learned at the travel summit episode is my next one. And we'll see if there's common threads throughout or if it's totally different.

We shall see. So I'll see you in that one soon. And we have amazing interviews coming up. Um, so stay tuned to actually the next one that we have is about Canva. So, um, I can't wait to share Rebecca Flint with you. You're going to really love that one, um, for yourself and, or your team on how to get better graphics and better social media posts going in your company. After all, I'm all about saving you time and effort in this show, the hustle rebellion. All right, guys, thank you. I'll talk to you next time.
