Episode 177 Transcript

Heather Porter (00:05.954)

Hi guys, welcome back to episode 177. What if your most powerful strategy is not your funnel, your followers, or even your goals, but a simple daily question, who can I help today? Hear me out. I know some of you are like cringing perhaps, but just hear me out. I wanna talk to you about something that's been grounding me a bit lately. And honestly, it's pulling me out of a

bit of a mindset slump and maybe it's because I've turned 50 recently. I'm just not feeling entirely motivated with my business, let's just say, or life in general. So this sort of way of being or mindsets helped me a lot lately and I wanted to share it with you guys as well. So you asked the question literally, how can I help one person today? How can I help one person today? That's it.

Not how can I grow this 10 times bigger or not what should my next viral video be or you know, what am I going to do about learning AI today? No, it's just one person. How can I help one person today? Now know we're all building businesses and we absolutely have goals. That's why you're here listening to this show, right? And all the guests that I'm bringing on for you guys. You have teams, have revenue targets.

You have payroll, you have launch plans, but sometimes in the middle of all of that stuff that you're working on, we lose that sort of like feeling of why we started in the first place. And we are drowning in data and dashboards and to-do lists and, you know, time management and all that sort of stuff that starts to feel like mazes and never ending sort of things that we have to focus on in our business.

So this one mindset, how can I help one person today cuts through all of that. It connects you to purpose, it simplifies your strategy and it keeps you moving even when days or things or seasons in your business start to feel heavy. I remember one time like way back when I was a newbie in the world of personal development and taking responsibility for my own life and actions when I was working for Tony Robbins and the whole thing was new to me.

Part of that was, you know, people kept talking about gratitude, right? And I know that's a big practice now. It's gratitude journals and what do you feel grateful for? And I absolutely love that. Also, I love this because when you step out of yourself and you're thinking about someone else or other people and how you help another person, things shift. I don't know about you guys, but for me, when I genuinely have helped a client or a friend or a stranger, I feel so good.

I not probably a couple of years ago. I remember I was driving with my partner, Neil, and our two step sons, the time they were like young, younger mid teenagers. And we were in an area called where we were in Coogee. Yeah, Coogee is like a like an area on the beach here in Sydney, actually the first place that I moved to. And so we're driving and there's these little roundabouts right over here in Australia where you go around them in your car to turn or whatever. And this little lady

was struggling to cross the street. She was on like a bit of a, like a walker. She's by herself and she dropped something and she couldn't really like stand up properly and no one was doing anything. I'm like, Neil, Neil, pull the car over, pull the car over. And so that's my partner. And he did, and I got out and I ran into the middle of the road in the roundabout in the busiest place in Coogee. And I picked her stuff up and I grabbed her arm and I go, follow me. And I'm like,

being traffic cop and putting my hand out. And I didn't even think twice. Like I did it. And then I got back in the car and I actually, felt so fulfilled for the rest of the day. So yes, practice gratitude, but also even if you're struggling to do that, just ask the question, how can you help just at least one person today? It's really, really powerful. So,

Yeah, I guess I just want to leave you with when you are struggling, when things feel messy or slow or overwhelming, go back to that, right? How can I help one person? You can think about writing a piece of content from the heart, not the algorithm, not like a hook. Don't go into chat GBT and go give me the best marketing hook. From the heart, you guys, from the heart. How can you create content from the heart? Send a message.

to pass client, like a text message, an SMS, a check-in, an email, do that. Record like a 60 second video, use some of these amazing tools we have like Loom or just on your phone. Record that video with like a tip that you wish someone had given you earlier and send it. The impact that you're looking for might not come from scale, which is what all of us are.

Well, most of us are trained for, right? Scale your business, grow your business. But that moment of impact might not be from that intent. It might come from more from being useful in this moment to just one single person. And here's the unexpected part. This mindset is actually like a growth tool, I think, because when you help one person every single day, if you get in the habit of that mindset, you show up consistently. It's training you to be consistent. You're creating value without pressure.

of launches and, my God, I need to make the algorithms work and, you know, test and measure. You're not going to stuck in that sort of mindset stuff. You're focused on building real relationships and guess what relationships do, right? Real people tell other people they refer, they buy, they stay. I have had some of my biggest fans. I never even met them and they referred.

us or my business back in the day and even today to other people and I'll get a referral and they're like, oh yeah, so-and-so referred me. I'm like, I'm thinking, I wish I knew that so-and-so was, you know, but that's the power of creating with the intent of helping another person. You do not have to go viral to grow. You just have to matter to someone. So even if you got 14 views on that video, 14 people were potentially helped by you, right? So if this speaks to you at all,

I want to offer you a tiny little challenge. Every morning for the next seven days, ask, who can I help today? Write it down, set a calendar reminder, pop that in your calendar, make it into a ritual. It can be a different thing that you do every day. It can be a client one day, a neighbor one day, a sister, brother, friend the next day. However, it's going to work for you. And if you're not sure who it is, help yourself.

Heather Porter (07:13.202)

Seriously, take five minutes to breathe, reflect, journal, because sometimes if you are struggling right now for, you know, for whatever reason in your business, whatever's going on, then maybe it's just literally just a moment to go, how can I help myself today? So that's your reminder for today, my little rebellious crew. Big visions are really, really beautiful. Obviously, that's really important. We talk about that a lot, but

daily impact, that's actually where real momentum can happen. So keep things simple, be human, yeah? Be caring and think about the people that could really use your help. Thank you so much for tuning in. I really appreciate you guys as always. yeah, someone, you know, could think of somebody that might be interested in this show, I'd be very grateful for you to let them know. Thank you so much. Hope you're really well and I wish you all the best. Talk soon.
