Episode 141 Transcript

Heather Porter (00:04.866)

Hello, you guys. Welcome to episode 141. Happy almost new year. We've almost made it almost at the end of this year. My gosh, I have been talking to a lot of people about this year and a lot of theme words have come up. Resilience, rough year. Just it's been an interesting one. mean, definitely for me and my business, it's been a huge roller coaster ride.

It's yeah, it's been a year, hasn't it? I think we're all looking forward to next year to see what it's going to bring to see what's going on with AI and some of the new tech developments that are out there. And in order to gear myself up for that, we're to be taking two weeks off of this podcast. So if you want to play catch up, well, now is the time you have.

You know, a couple weeks hopefully off at least during the holidays and if you're looking for things to listen to, have a tune in to some of the past episodes. So I wanted to explain what I'm doing over my three weeks off because I am going to be taking three weeks off with, in addition to my team, we're all taking three weeks off of the business and I'm actually not going anywhere this year. I am staying put here in Sydney in the Northern beaches of Australia.

I'm really looking forward to it because I'm going to focus on three things over the three week period off. And I always like to hear personally what other people do, you know, during their time off or what they do with their planning. So I thought I'd just share that information with you guys and, and, know, maybe it'll inspire you or give you ideas as well of what to perhaps think about for next year. So the first thing is out of the three things that I'm doing is I am definitely going to do some me time.

done a lot of travel this year. It's like I said, it's kind of been an up and a down sort of year with projects and clients and just things in general. So I'm actually quite exhausted. So I'm taking some me time. am going to nap whenever I feel like it. I'll take a nap. No guilt. I am going to swim in the ocean. The ocean, the beaches here in Sydney are just phenomenal. They're some of the best in the world. The water gets lovely. So I'm gonna

Heather Porter (02:27.79)

hop on into the ocean as much as I can. Also, like ocean pools. So they have these pools, if you're not from Australia, that are like built into the rocks. It's like on the side of the ocean. So it's saltwater, but it's kind of like a saltwater pool. So go in those. I'll see my girlfriends and friends around town. We'll explore the city, both with my friends and my partner. We're going to do all sorts of things. We're going to go see Christmas lights. We're going to go to new restaurants and new cafes and

Ferry rides around the harbor and whatever, whatever I feel like. I'm already booking in all sorts of fun things. So we're going to do like a night out with my partner and one of my girlfriends and her partners. And we're going to go to this really great restaurant in Manly called Pocket Pizza. And then we're coming back to our house and we're going to walk around the neighborhood. There's this famous street of Christmas lights. So things like that, just things that I'm planning in. I'm making sure that throughout the holidays I'm

exploring, I'm having fun, I'm seeing friends and I'm napping and I'm meditating and I'm just journaling and clearing my brain, actually having space to clear my brain. Guys, I was talking just literally yesterday, I had a wrap up call with a little like mastermind group I'm a part of with a few women, female business owners. And we were just talking about how nice it's gonna be to just have space in our head. Like, because we all keep going and keep going and you know, and work really hard and

And it actually takes space to plan, quietness to plan, a moment to just clear out the thoughts, to plan and to be proactive with what we want. So that is the me time element, the clearing of the space. I will be organizing stuff you guys. So that's the sort of pillar number two, if you will, over the holidays.

I am going to be going through my closet. I'm going to get rid of clothes that I don't wear anymore, haven't worn in a year. I'll be giving those to charity. If I think that they're not worthy of that, know that places like H will take your clothes to help with the landfill issue. A big part of that is analyzing my wardrobe and looking at really what are my staples and only getting staples because I don't want to add to the fast fashion crisis that we have.

Heather Porter (04:50.998)

So it's just reevaluating my clothes for the future. Looking through old makeup and beauty products and thinking about what I really want to keep and what I want to use going ahead and checking out expired things. Looking through my books. I have so many books and I came across one. It was from Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki.

from Rich Dad Poor Dad and it says, the title is We Want You to Be Rich. Guys, I have been in the personal development for a long time. mean, those of you that have listened to this or know me, you my journey started with Tony Robbins and working for him. So a big part of my books over the years have not only been personal development, spirituality, business books, but I have these random ones like that. So I'm calling my book collection and I'm going through that.

and then I'll be pulling out the ones that I really want to read for next year. So there's that. And I'm gonna deep clean my home. I know it sounds boring, but actually it's not because it's part of decluttering, right? It's looking through everything. I always like to scale back and simplify and big part of that is what I own. And I like to go through and get rid of stuff and think about what I might want to have for next year and write a wish list for that.

Like I keep things until they literally break. So our couch is like 15, no, 13 years old. And it's now just starting to tear and to a point where it's probably not going to be repairable. So it's like making that wish list. You know, I want a new couch and I want whatever things that I, that I actually genuinely need, not necessarily want, but just need. So that's going to be big part of it. Organization and organizing my office and thinking through how I want to work.

next year and what that might look like visually in my space. So got some me time, got some organized in time and then the planning. So after I have some me time, I'll be able to clear out my brain and have space to plan. So I'm going to be mapping out my goals for 2025. And for me, I already know big part of that is going to be I want to start lifting weights next year. I do Pilates four times a week and then I try and get out and walk when I can and I stress try.

Heather Porter (07:06.264)

but I'm going to make more effort. So I'll still go to Pilates three to four times a week, but I will definitely do weights as part of that. want to just start with two days a week. Part of that is going to be monitoring my protein intake as well. I really want to get up to sort of, I know that for lifting weights and working out, and especially as you're getting in your late forties into your fifties, which is where I am, you need to drastically increase your protein intake. So that's, could be a big part of my year next year.

focusing on that side of me and my fitness. And then for my business projects in there, I'm going to be looking at a new project plan for our brand new website where we're shifting how we work and who we're attracting into the business. So we're having a whole new website and branding and new services that we're going to be offering. I'm going to look at how I manage this podcast going ahead and the evolution of where I want to take this podcast.

I'm going look at better systems for my team and myself. So reevaluating our sales process and our proposals and our contracts and everything that's there. Am I going to do all this during the holidays? No, I am going to map out. These are going to be project plans that I create and then make sure that they get actioned. I'm going to look at where AI will fit into all of that. I'm going look at where I want to speak as well. Like I spoke quite a bit last or this year, I should say.

And I want to just make sure that whatever stage I'm climbing on is the best fit for myself and the attendees. So what's that going to look like? Community projects and events that I want to be a part of. I keep talking about doing my own events. I'm still thinking about what that's going to look like. But I yeah, there's a community element there that's really important, you know, and being around people. And I want to make sure that's a big part of of what I'm doing going ahead. So.

That's kind of it in a nutshell for me, at least in what I'm going to be up to. Three weeks is actually not that long to put all that into. And I'm very aware of that. So I'm going to be able to make sure to balance that. You know, it's sort of like I might do like a couple of days of planning and then lots of me time and then mixing in the other stuff. Who knows? I don't know what it's going to look like, but it'll it'll somehow work. So three weeks it is. Guys, I hope that you also have some things planned during this time and you are able to take some time off. Certainly if you're in Australia, I know

Heather Porter (09:31.118)

minimum most of us take is two weeks up to three weeks pretty much across the board. So hopefully you're having some downtime. It's important. It's really important to fill your cup over these holidays to give your brain time to think to re-evaluate what you want personally and professionally. On Christmas I am going to be spending the day with my two step sons. They're 22 and 24. The 24 year olds
